Insatiable, 2025
Installation, video
May 2025
Each day at the Sydney Fish Market, a mountain of Styrofoam boxes is discarded into a vast warehouse. The boxes are shoved into a densifier re-emerging through tubes like fecal waste, imperishable evidence of our insatiable appetite for fish and seafood. I’ve gleaned and placed the detritus as a context from which to project an underwater video made by my son, then only about 10 or 11. It reveals a moment of innocent joy as he is immersed in nature’s rhythms. Through this piece, I hope to draw attention to our consumerist lifestyle and the imbalance and disruption it has wrought on our environment.
